Wonder Woman made her first animated appearance in a cartoon named ‘Brady Kids’, in 1972. It was her guest appearance in the episode ‘It’s All Greek to Me’. In this episode, the Brady kids come across Wonder Woman and accidently they all find themselves transported to the past, to the times when the ancient Olympian Games were being held.
The Brady Kids decide to take part in the marathon and win the race by beating the Olympian athletes. Wonder Woman tries to convince the kids not to participate in the marathon or any game for that matter. Because, they are from future and if they win the race, the course of history will get changed, which they are not supposed to do.
After Brady Kids, Wonder Woman appeared in a cartoon named; ‘Super Friends’. This was an American television cartoon series which was aired on every Sunday morning on ABC network from 1973 to 1986. This animated series was about a group of superheroes and their adventures based on DC Comics publication; Justice League of America. Hanna-Barbera was the producer of this cartoon series which ran for 109 episodes.The first episode of ‘Super Friends’ was telecasted on 8th September 1973. The DC Comics superheroes such as, Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Robin, Aquaman etc were featured in this cartoon. The number of these superheroes later kept on increasing in the course of time. DC Comics also published a comic book series based on Super Friends cartoon. Over the period of 13 years(,) the title of the show evolved from Super Friends to ‘The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians’. The Super Friends cartoon grew so famous and thus, many spoofs, lampoons and parodies were made over it.
Wonder Woman also appeared in another cartoon; ‘Justice League’. This American cartoon series ran on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004. This animated series was produced by Warner Bros. Animation and it is based on DC Comics’ Justice League of America. The title of the series was changed from ‘Justice League’ to ‘Justice League Unlimited’ after second season. This cartoon series depicted the adventures of the DC Comics superheroes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Flash, Hawkman etc.
In this series Wonder Woman’s origin story was modified and she was called ‘rookie’ at the time of her first confrontation with other superheroes. The consecutive episodes portrayed her efforts to get used to the new world. The producers had to go into some legal issues about including the character of Wonder Woman in this cartoon series, but finally they could manage the issue. Susan Eisenberg gave her voice to Wonder Woman in ‘Justice League’. Wonder Woman’s fans insisted on pairing her with Superman but in this series her romantic relationship with Batman was hinted.
