‘Wonder Woman’, the animated movie released on March 3rd, 2009, is a part of ‘Animated Original Movies Series’ of DC Universe. This film was directed by Lauren Montgomery, an animation film director and a storyboard artist, whereas Michael Jelenic and Gail Simone were the script writers. Bruce Timm, an American animator and character designer of DC Animated Universe was the producer and the film was released by Warner Bros. It was in the form of DVD and blu-ray disc. 102,890 copies of the DVD were sold in the very first week of its release and it acquired 5th rank on the chart of DVD sales in America. The movie is in English which has English subtitles too and the runtime of the DVD is 74 minutes. The reviews say that the movie is well appreciated by audience as well as critics and it is rated PG – 13.

The tagline of the film is, “Courageous Princess. Fierce Warrior. Legendary Superhero.” Keri Russell; an American actress and dancer voiced Wonder Woman and Nathan Fillion; a Canadian actor voiced Steve Trevor. Other voicing cast is; Alfred Molina as Ares, Rosario Dawson as Artemis, Marg Helgenberger as Hera, Oliver Platt as Hades, Virginia Madsen as Hippolyta, David McCallum as Zeus and others. The studio was Warner Home Video.

The plot of this animated movie goes like this - In a battle between Amazons and Ares, Hippolyta defeated the war God Ares. Zeus prevented Hippolyta from killing Ares and in exchange Hera, the Goddess of women and marriage bounds the powers of Ares and grants Amazons an island; Themyscira – the Paradise Island.

Amazons can live on the island and here they will be eternally young and isolated from men. Later Hippolyta was granted a daughter – Diana. After a millennium, Steve Trevor crash lands on this island and is saved by Diana who later goes to New York with him.

Ares is released by Persephone, an Amazon who had fallen in love with him. Then there are various conflicts between Diana and Ares. Ares attacks Washington DC and Diana and Steve along with Amazons, fight him. Persephone is killed by Hippolyta who, before dying tells Hippolyta that she is depriving the Amazons of their right of living as women by isolating them from the world of men. The president, under the influence of Ares’ powers orders a missile attack on Paradise Island, which is overthrown by Steve. Finally Ares is killed by Diana and sent to underworld. Diana stays in the world of men with Steve and also performs her duties of saving the world from crime as a Wonder Woman.
