An American television series ‘Wonder Woman’ aired in 3 seasons from 1975 to 1979, casted Lynda Carter for the iconic role of Wonder Woman. Lynda Carter was just 24 then and liked to read Wonder Woman comics. When she was offered this role, she was so overjoyed and excited to wear the costume of her own favorite super heroine that she said, I could even play this role for free.

She also stated, it was a lifetime thrill and she never treated Wonder Woman as just a comic book character, but she played her for real.Born on 24th July 1951 in Arizona, USA, Lynda Carter, an American actress is best known for her Wonder Woman role. As a high school student, she used to perform in different bands. In 1972, she won the title of ‘Miss World USA’ and gained country wide fame. She also reached semi finals in ‘Miss World’. After taking acting classes in New York, Lynda began appearing in some TV series. But, she didn’t get very good career opportunities and was about to return home when she was offered the role of Wonder Woman.

Lynda played her role so earnestly that ‘Lynda Carter’ and ‘Wonder Woman’ gradually became synonyms. Wonder Woman got the face of Lynda Carter and she became a super star. Her performance was very much appreciated both by audience and by critics, which made the series ‘Wonder Woman’ last till three seasons. All the Wonder Woman stunts in the first series were done by Lynda Carter herself.

Lynda said, Wonder Woman is an important feminist archetype and virtue personified. She lives inside each one of us. We just have to recognize her and bring her out. Wonder Woman belongs to everybody and Lynda Carter will forever identify with her.
Apart from Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter also acted in many other serials and movies like Super Troopers, Sky High, A Matter of Wife... And Death, When Friendship Kills, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Hotline, Smallville, The Creature of the Sunny Side Up Trailer Park etc. There are two albums on her record as well and at present she appears on The Bridge - Concept of a Culture. She was nominated for many awards and in 2004; she won the T.V. Land Award as ‘Superest Superhero’ for ‘The New Adventures of Wonder Woman’ (1975).

Wonder Woman’s costume has undergone a recent make over and Lynda likes the new costume very much. There are upcoming Wonder Woman movies where people want Lynda Carter to play Hippolyta. There are Wonder Woman T shirts, dolls, toys available in market with ‘Lynda Carter’ face and there are Lynda Carter concert tours also going on. Audience still remembers Lynda deflecting bullets and fighting criminals in the role of Wonder Woman.
