Mayor Campaign

Even I was in school once and was quite famous. I used to top every exam so my teachers liked me and they would ask everyone to be like me. When I was in fourth class, there was an election for the post of the head girl. I knew I was going to win. But to my surprise, I didn’t. Later I came to know, everyone was afraid of me in class because I used to beat up people every now and then; with reason and without reason.

They were smart. They wanted no dictator. And another girl, a friendlier one, was made the head girl. I was so sad that day. Same thing happened two more times and finally I gave up.But wait a minute, why am I talking about this? I was going to talk about the Washington DC Mayor Campaign. I won’t tell you that I supported Wonder Woman, I won’t even tell you that me and my friends voted for her…It was fun to see the DC Comics super heroes competing! The candidates were; Superman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Green Lantern, the Atom, Cyborg, Batgirl and Batwoman.

Though I never won any election, my favorite super heroine; Wonder Woman won out defeating all other powerful superheroes. The Atom was on second place and Green Lantern, on third. A DC based institute selected 53 college students for a weeklong workshop on social media and online organizing. This mayor campaign was a part of their exercise and everything including website, email solicitation, platform and entire cyber – electoral scheme was to be handled by them.

Wonder Woman’s slogan for this campaign was; “Making DC Wonderful”. Her pet issues included, establishing truth, preventing genocides, same sex marriage and transportation. Her mottos were equality, transparency, peace and empowerment and security if undeserved. She is the only DC character who can deflect bullets and she is one of the oldest DC residents. Her goal is to build a strong anti corruption campaign with the help of her Lasso of Truth.

The whole campaign turned out to be a grand success. The students had to survey the responses of people to the cyber – electoral campaign, and I guess they must have concluded that this is an effective social media. Apart from this, another conclusion which can be drawn is that, Wonder Woman is the most famous DC Comics character; so, the writers and the artists working on Wonder Woman character have more social responsibilities. They will have to be more alert before taking any revolutionary decisions about Wonder Woman, be it her makeover or the newly introduced comic’s series.
